      PGA professional Michael Haywood has served as the director of golf at Tucson (Ariz.) Country Club since 1997. Prior to his current position Haywood was the Club’s first assistant professional from 1991-1997. A veteran of the United States Military, Haywood served as a member of one of the U.S. Army’s elite military units, the First Cavalry Division of Fort Hood, Texas. As a computer programmer/operator, Haywood served in multiple operations that included humanitarian relief efforts to Mexico City and military operations in Central America. During his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal & Air Assault Badge.

      His leadership within the golf industry has reached every elected level of governance within the PGA of America. Michael currently serves as the Honorary President of the Southwest Section PGA , and as Chairman of the Southwest Section PGA Hall of Fame Committee. Michael has served as President of the Southwest Section PGA (2011-2013), and as past Chairman of the Southwest Section PGA Finance Committee (2007-2011). In total Michael has severed on 18 National/Section/Chapter Committees and Task Forces to include chairing 8 of those entities.

      Haywood’s leadership began at the Southern Chapter, SWSPGA level where he served on the Chapter’s Board of Directors for 10 years that included his ascent to Secretary, Vice-President and President of the Southern Chapter (2005-2007). Haywood’s has served on the Southwest Section PGA Board of Directors since 2003 and chaired multiple Committees to include Education, Apprentice, Finance, Hall of Fame, and the Teaching & Coaching Summit. In October 2009 Haywood was elected by the Southwest Section PGA membership to serve on the PGA of America’s National Board of Directors (2010-2013). He currently serves as Chairman of the PGA of America’s National Apprentice Committee.

      Haywood has served as a rules official at two Ryder Cups (2010 & 2012), three USGA Championships and more than 30 USGA Championship qualifiers. Among his honors include the 2012 & 2006 Southwest PGA Golf Professional of the Year; the 2004 and 2007 Southwest Section PGA Horton Smith Award, 2008 Southern Chapter, SWSPGA Teacher of the Year. 2001, ’02 & ’06 Southern Chapter SWSPGA Professional of the Year, 3-time (1999, ’07, ’10) PING Regional Club-fitter of the Year and was cited in 2009-2011 & 2011-2013 by Golf Digest as one of the ‘Top Teachers in Arizona.’ Michael has also been acknowledged as one of the Top 50 Growth of the Game Teaching Professionals in the country by PGA Magazine in 2012, 2013 & 2015.

      Michael's additional industry involvement includes serving in multiple Board's of Director to include, Golf Range Magazine, PGA Magazine, Arizona Theater Arts Advisory Board, and SNAG (Starting New At Golf) Advisory Board. Michael leads a staff of PGA professionals committed to excellence in a number of different skill sets to include instruction, tournament operations, and the establishment of several philanthropic efforts during his tenure.
